V Meeting Villa de Madrid indoor was presented today at Gallur Municipal Sports Center, on the same track where the World Athletics Indoor Tour final will be held tomorrow – and it’s already sold out.
Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) President Raúl Chapado, councilor of Sports at Madrid City Hall Sofía Miranda and athletes Yulimar Rojas, Juan Miguel Echevarría, Teresa Errandonea and Adrián Ben spoke to media at today’s pre event press conference.
RFEA president Raúl Chapado: “This Meeting Villa de Madrid is the best indoor athletics event ever hosted here – with an outstanding field which competes at World Athletics Indoor Tour final. Gallur will be crowded, and the Meeting will reach out to 272 million homes over the world, so that’s a great value for Madrid city brand. Furthermore, children will enjoy being close to the biggest names of the sport”.
Councilor of Sports at Madrid City Hall Sofía Miranda: “Javier Odriozola started all of this and thanks to him we still enjoy the best athletics in our city. I am very proud that so many world class athletes had chosen once again to race in Madrid”.
Reigning triple jump world champion Yulimar Rojas: “Madrid is a very special place and it has been pivotal in my athletics career. I love jumping here because of the great public environment that always gives me energy. I don’t obsess about the world record – if it happens, it happens. This is an Olympic year, all I want is to compete well and get the best out of me, be a better athlete and a better person”.
Long jump global indoor champion Juan Miguel Echevarría: “This is a very good meeting and I’m looking forward to give show and challenge my indoor personal best (of 8.46m). I am young and have many competitions ahead of me – I try to take things day by day”.
Spain’s 60m hurdles leader Teresa Errandonea: “I am looking forward to race here in Madrid and try to break my personal best, I think it is possible and I am excited about it. Last year I watched the meeting on TV – now I see myself here and I want to make the most of it”.
World Championship finalist in 800m Adrián Ben: “It is clearly a high-quality race with world and European gold medalists and some top runners from Kenya. My aim is to compete well, to have the best race possible and to put on a show for the people who will come to Gallur. I want to prove my worth and the presence of my parents in the stands is one of my greatest incentives”.
Meeting Villa de Madrid indoor starts tomorrow at 19h with more than 60 Olympic, world and European medalists, also in youth categories. Read the full competition’s preview in the next link.
