The Gallur Sports Centre was opened on 26th February 2016 with the Indoor International Meeting Villa de Madrid, that competition opened the doors of this magnificent athletics track. Madrid needed a new track since the city organized the European Athletics Championships in the old Palacio de los Deportes in 2005.
Since that first meeting in the new pavilion four more International Meetings had been organized here. The 2020 meeting will be the third year on a row that the Meeting Villa de Madrid is included in the World Indoor Tour of World Athletics, this guarantees the high quality of this event. That world tour bring together the most important indoor international meetings in the globe with Boston (January 25th), Karlsruhe (January 31th), Düsseldorf (February 4th), Torun (February 8th), Glasgow (February 15th) and Liévin (19th February), and closing with Madrid next February 21th.
Besides housing the 2020 World Indoor Tour final and hosting this meeting since 2016, Gallur has also organized other great competitions since its opening. The first big national competition hosted in this track was the senior Spanish Championships 2016, an unbeatable beginning, after this came the U23 and Master Spanish Championships in 2017, and the national U20 in 2019. Within the international competitions this pavilion has organized many international meetings in different ages, but the greatest event hosted has been the Master European Indoor Chapionships held in Madrid from March 19th to 24th 2018. Great success of participation, organization and results that reinforced even more this track as one of the best in the world.
